Having grown up in a town in northern Maine, I knew that "Hakkapeliitta" is the name of a legendary (and expensive) snow tire that will drag even the sorriest of cars out of a deep snow drift.
When I saw these, I thought "oh, why not." After riding the recent freak storms we've had in Boston, where I'm a courier, I have to say that these tires are unstoppable.
Light, fluffy snow is all but unnoticed by these beastly tires, and the only thing that I've found slows me down is thick, wet snow which clogs the treads. Apart from that, even streets covered in glare ice didn't slow me down a bit - which is great when you've got 15 minutes to do a crosstown run in freezing rain. Well, until you get off and fall over 5 times between the bike rack and the building entrance. Next investment: crampons.
Bottom line: you won't regret them.
